Don't go to basic training unprepared. Sponsored by UltimateBasicTraining.com

I am curious about how the whole military life/career thing goes on. I understand that you have to be a certain age to get in... do you retire at a certain age, or whenever you want to?

Would it be better to get a civilian job while in the military. Well I know that there are some jobs that are only civilian and not ME or MO. I just want to know if will you be able to keep the job you have serving and getting out of the military. I hope you understand what I am asking. I just need someone to explain this to me.

If you enlist and stay for 20 years, you can retire, regardless of your age at the time of retirement.

As for whether you keep your military job in the civilian world, that greatly depends on what you do in the military, and whether there's demand for those skills after you get out.

The civilian contractors that work on FLW generally have rather good jobs. Most of these civilians are ex-military.

hope this helps.

getting a MOS with civilian skillsets can be beneficial, but go for something you enjoy and are passionate about - no reason to get pigeonholed into doing something you're not happy with just to imrpove your resume, any military service will look good on a resume. You'll have your GI bill benefits to work on school in your off time, and can work on personal/professional development quite a bit in doings so.
